The Five W’s of God
The who, what, when, where, and why of God and His plan for creation

Chapter 3

"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me That is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Most people believe the story of Jesus begins with His birth in Bethlehem to Mary and Joseph, as predicted here in Micah 5:2. But we can see in this verse that He existed even before He was born into the flesh, "from of old, from everlasting."

"The LORD possessed me in the beginning of His way, Before His works of old." This verse in Proverbs 8:22 is where our story of Jesus begins, in the Old Testament. The word possessed in this verse is Strong's Concordance #7069, the Hebrew word qanah, which means "to erect" or "create." The Word, or Jesus, as we would come to know Him, was there before any of God's works of old; in other words, before the creation of all things. The Word was the agent of creation. Continue in Verse 23: "I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, Or ever the earth was." Before the Earth or anything else was ever made, God also had a creature form in order to create all things. We see Him again being there before anything else in John 17:5: "And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was." This creature was separate from God and at the same time was God, as we read in John 1:1-5:

We read in John 17:8 of a prayer Jesus made, stating that He's given the words God gave to Him to mankind and that mankind now knows for sure that He came from God: For I have given unto them the words which Thou gavest Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that Thou didst send Me.

The name Jesus doesn't apply to the being the Word, until His birth into the flesh. The word Jesus is the Greek word Iesous, which is Joshua in Hebrew and means "Salvation of Yahveh" or "Yahveh's Saviour," which is exactly the role He was playing at that time on Earth in the second Earth age. This being existed, though, long before that dispensation did.

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  1. 2.The same was in the beginning with God.

  2. 3.All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.

  3. 4.In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.

  4. 5.And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
